In Tokyo, Asuna’s mother initially believes her daughter is ruined but is pleased after Asuna explains the situation. Meanwhile, the family veterinarian informs Asuna that her dog, Salad, is pregnant. Asuna excitedly rushes to the tennis courts to share the news with Mitaka, but her vague explanation leads Shun and others to mistakenly believe Asuna is the one expecting a child. Distraught, Shun decides he must marry Asuna and visits Kyoko at Maison Ikkoku, where they share a quiet, sad moment. Later, at his engagement ceremony with Asuna, Mitaka discovers the truth about the dog’s pregnancy and is devastated. Although the misunderstanding spreads, Shun is already officially engaged. Mitaka and Kyoko continue to meet, with Kyoko expressing her hope that he will eventually find happiness.
