Although he breaks a string during the performance, the neighborhood approves of his music, allowing him to practice at home. The following day, Setsu enrolls at Umezono Academy and befriends Shuri Maeda, who shares his interest in the shamisen and discovers a broken instrument in the music prep room. After classes, Setsu receives a new shamisen case from his supportive older brother, Wakana, who is preparing to return to Aomori.
