The culprit is identified as Mazuda’s friend, Mai Kougami, who stored the ice in a purse cooled by dry ice. Mai claims she had a fifty percent chance of Mazuda choosing the poisoned drink. Jimmy demonstrates that Mai placed the poisoned cubes in her hood, evidenced by a chemical reaction with a 10 yen coin. Mai confesses, stating she killed her patient to ensure his medical thesis would be published. After solving the case, Shinichi collapses and wakes up, realizing he has reverted to his original form and is no longer Conan.
