Sasamoto survives a falling cinder block attack and suspects his college friend Hikage, who vanished 3 years ago. Hikage wrote a novel predicting the murder of three friends, and Nesu was already found dead in a park. The remaining friend, Kamio, receives an exploding package causing minor injury. Conan analyzes brake marks to question the attacker's intent. He discovers Hikage gave his manuscript to Kamio, who rejected it, leading Hikage to commit suicide in the mountains. After tranquilizing Kogoro, Conan explains that Kamio was blackmailed by Nesu regarding Hikage's death. Kamio orchestrated Nesu's murder to look like Hikage's work, then staged attacks on himself and Sasamoto to cover his tracks.
