Struggling artist Daijirou Manaka is critically injured by a falling I beam. While hospitalized, Takagi and the Detective Boys examine his belongings, discovering a license, rope, gloves, and a suicide note. Upon waking, Daijirou feigns amnesia when questioned by Takagi, but Conan detects the deception. Conan deduces that Daijirou harbors deep resentment toward his uncle, who refused support unless Daijirou abandoned his art career, leading to a plan to murder him while staging it as suicide. Conan visits the uncle’s mansion and discovers he has secretly purchased Daijirou’s paintings. He persuades the uncle to intervene and stop the impending suicide. Daijirou ultimately realizes his uncle’s true feelings and care for him.
