Kogoro and Conan visit an apartment to examine the death of Yamamoto, who appears to have committed suicide by shooting himself. His friend is suspected because he fled without contacting authorities. After Kogoro eats strawberries, Conan identifies the killer. He investigates Yamamoto's dentist, then tranquilizes Kogoro to reveal the truth. The murderer is Yamamoto's neighbor, Yumi Suzuki, who worked as a dental assistant. Conan deduces that Yumi entered the apartment, offered treatment, and shot Yamamoto when he opened his mouth. As proof, Conan shows that the coffee stirrer found at the scene is actually Yumi's dental mirror.
