Ran, Conan, and Kogoro seek shelter in a temple during a rainstorm, where High Priest Tenei recounts the legend of the Mist Goblin. After Tenei demands Kogoro leave due to his profession, the priest is discovered hanged from a Discipline Room beam, 10 meters above the ground. Four monks—Kannen, Mokunen, Tonnen, and Shunen—are identified as suspects. The investigation reveals a similar incident occurred 2 years ago, involving a student killed under identical circumstances and attributed to the same mythical creature.
