Investigators question the three finalists and discover they share identical shoe sizes, voices, and left-handedness. A gun found in Gonsaku’s bag prompts his servant to disclose that the Hyakki Yakou gang invaded his home, stealing deer and butterfly paintings and killing his dog. Gonsaku was spared because the gang leader shares his surname, Kojima. Conan deduces Gonsaku organized the competition to identify the leader. He realizes Gonsaku solved the mystery during the final round, where contestants read a single kanji character, allowing him to pinpoint the culprit based on the shared traits.
