Fumitaka Togashi and Tsuneo Hakamada are released on parole, but Togashi is subsequently convicted for murdering parole officer Takehiko Sakuraba. Kogoro tries to break Togashi's silence regarding the crime. Meanwhile, Conan and Takagi examine the scene, noting two blood puddles, wiped fingerprints, and a weapon near a broken mirror. They review convenience store footage to verify Togashi's alibi and discover Hakamada with blood stains leading from the location. Takagi interviews Sakuraba's neighbor, who witnessed the event during a blackout. She recounts seeing the attacker flash in the lightning before throwing a weapon toward her.
