Detective Boys attend a Shinto shrine firefly festival where released insects are delivered by truck. Driver Tokurou Nakamine is found murdered, leaving three villagers as suspects. Conan identifies a flashlight found by Genta as a dictation machine containing Nakamine's voice. He deduces that second driver Shuchirou Tarumi killed Nakamine in a secluded area before returning to the village. Tarumi attempts to flee with Haibara hostage but is apprehended. The motive is revealed to be blackmail over embezzlement from the firefly project and Nakamine's company.
