After insisting on escorting the Detective Boys to a fireworks festival due to recent robberies, Kobayashi gets lost taking a shortcut. She witnesses a fight in an alley that ends with a woman named Akira Sumida being stabbed to death. At the station, Shiratori questions her about the murder. Kobayashi reports hearing a female voice threaten the victim and deduces the killer is female based on her breasts. She also recalls seeing a truck with the number 09 partially visible. Later, while leaving for the washroom, she overhears officers speculating that Shiratori is dating her only because she resembles Sato, leaving her heartbroken.
