The group investigates the home of an absent employee, discovering her dead body in a scene staged to look like a robbery. A neighbor testifies that the victim left for a convenience store after starting laundry, noting a five-minute pause in the washing machine's noise. Conan deduces the truth through a sleeping Sonoko: the employee murdered her coworker after their aprons were accidentally swapped. The killer attempted to retrieve her apron from the machine when the victim returned, causing her death, and subsequently faked the break-in to cover up the crime.
