Kogoro, Ran, and Conan watch horse racing at the Mouri Detective Agency. Kogoro loses all bets but wins one million yen on the Pirate’s Spirit from race 9. He celebrates with sushi at Beika Irohazushi next door. There, they meet Wakita Kanenori, a cook with a wounded eye who claims to be a drifter. Conan recalls that Rum has an artificial eye from an accident. When Conan asks about Wakita’s eye, he offers to show it, but Conan declines. Wakita discusses mysteries with Kogoro. Three other patrons order sushi. Hijirisawa Suzuyo arrives, claiming her pouch was stolen. She finds the pouch in the restroom, but her ticket worth a million yen is missing.
