Kogoro, Ran, and Conan arrive at Cucina Eigo Restaurant, where the atmosphere mirrors the 19th-century Mary Celeste mystery involving a crew's unexplained disappearance. Upon entering, they discover five guests from Onda Trading missing from their seats. The chef, Kichiishi Eigo, is found collapsed with a head wound, and the word "curse" is pinned to the door by a knife. Investigators locate five sets of footprints and shoes leading toward the lake. After police arrive, Kichiishi Eigo reveals the guests' affiliation with Onda Trading. Suddenly, the chef vanishes, appearing to walk into the lake just like the missing customers. Conan begins his investigation to solve the case.
