Ep. 1: Manji confesses to a priest who attempts to kill him, then vows to kill one thousand evil men.

Manji visits a priest to confess to killing his lord and one hundred retainers. The priest, bounty hunter Johnny Gyobutsu, shoots Manji in the forehead, but Manji regenerates and kills Johnny. Manji returns home to Yaobikuni, who placed sacred bloodworms in him to grant immortality, and his sister Machi, who has regressed mentally. Machi dreams of Manji killing her husband, a police officer. She wanders off and is captured by ronin led by Hishiyasu Shido, Johnny's brother. Hishiyasu kills Machi, prompting Manji to slaughter the entire ronin group. Manji declares his intent to seek redemption by killing one thousand evil men. The episode ends with a woman at a grave swearing revenge.
