At a riverbank, Sabato Kuroi confesses his eternal love for Rin, claiming it mirrors the manner in which he killed her mother. Manji intervenes, teaming up with Rin to subdue Kuroi. Upon exposure, Kuroi’s shoulders bear the severed heads of his former wife and Rin’s mother. He fatally strikes Manji, then offers his own life for Rin’s as proof of devotion. Before Rin can take her own life, Manji revives and stabs Kuroi. Enraged by this immorality, Kuroi attempts to kill Rin but is slain by Manji. Manji reminds Rin of her primary goal: preventing Anotsu from seizing control of the dojo. Meanwhile, Anotsu speaks with Kagimura Habaki and accepts a wager to unite various fighting styles into a single group.
