As Naruto completes his training on Mount Myoboku, Pain launches an invasion of the Hidden Leaf Village accompanied by his new Animal Path. Inoichi attempts to read the Animal Path's mind while Shizune directs a biopsy team to investigate the secrets behind the metal piercings for the Leaf's Intel Division. Meanwhile, Pain interrogates the villagers about the attack. Upon learning that Pain is assaulting the village, Tsunade orders the retrieval of Naruto to address the crisis.
