Konohamaru and his friends train to join the upcoming war but are assigned medical duties by Sakura after being criticized for their attitude. Shikamaru notices Konohamaru’s frustration and gives him a shogi piece with the kanji for "King" to help him define what he must protect. Konohamaru challenges Temari to prove his worth, unleashing a Rasengan after she insults Naruto. Shikamaru intervenes to prevent violence, and Moegi helps Konohamaru realize the "King" refers to the defenseless villagers. Temari acknowledges his skill and reports the Leaf Village’s potential to her home. Shikamaru informs Tsunade of Konohamaru’s dream to become Hokage, reminding her of her brother Nawaki’s similar promise.
