While traveling through the Land of Water, Naruto's team encounters a bandit claiming to be Naruto Uzumaki. Naruto quickly defeats the imposter, and an officer named Iggy arrives to take custody of the prisoner. After parting ways, Iggy is revealed to be the mastermind behind the impersonation, plotting with his partner Banna to gain fame by supposedly defeating Naruto. Their scheme attracts the attention of mercenary ninja who capture Banna for a bounty. Iggy confesses the truth to Naruto's group and asks for help. Although they initially pretend to be uninvolved, Naruto and his friends intervene when Iggy attempts to rescue Banna alone, defeating the mercenaries. Iggy and Banna then decide to live honestly and part ways with Naruto.
