Concerned about his son's doubts regarding his readiness for war, Shikaku assigns Shikamaru and Tenten to accompany Naruto on a supply mission to Mokuzu Island. Upon arrival, the trio encounters a dense fog and a repeating obstacle course of reefs and whirlpools. Despite using signature techniques, Guy, Yamato, and Naruto exhaust their chakra trying to break the cycle. Naruto eventually uses his remaining energy to create shadow clones against the rocks, prompting Shikamaru to devise an escape strategy. The group utilizes a scroll from Tenten to store their vessel, allowing them to ambush and catch villagers who are stealing from the shipwreck to profit from the disaster.
