After defeating enemies disguised as Hidden Stone ninja, Kakashi accepts Minato’s request to protect Kushina during childbirth, when the Kurama seal is weakest. He informs Rin’s grave of this duty, unaware that Obito overheard the plan. Consequently, the masked man unleashes the Nine-Tails on the village before it is sealed into newborn Naruto Uzumaki, costing Minato and Kushina their lives. Hiruzen promises Kushina to protect her son and resumes his role as Third Hokage. Kakashi is later recruited by Danzo into Root and meets ANBU member Kinoe, who wields Wood Style.
