Haunted by nightmares of Rin, Kakashi infiltrates the archives to investigate Kinoe’s Wood Style abilities. He discovers a secret note regarding Hashirama Senju before Hiruzen arrives. Hiruzen explains that Kinoe survived an experiment where Leaf ninjas were injected with Hashirama’s cells to harness the First Hokage’s power. The following day, Hiruzen is ambushed by Root operatives led by Kinoe, acting on Danzo’s orders to assassinate the Third Hokage. The target is revealed to be Kakashi in disguise, allowing the real Hiruzen to confront Danzo. After Hiruzen is reappointed as Third Hokage, Danzo tells Orochimaru to cease their meetings, believing Kakashi has betrayed him.
