Kakashi extracts the captive Kinoe from a hideout, where they are ambushed by a giant white snake created by Orochimaru. Kakashi saves Kinoe from being eaten but is exposed to a poisonous fog from the creature's remains. Grateful for Kakashi's mercy after his own failed assassination attempt, Kinoe provides an antidote and reveals his mission. Kakashi reports Danzo's conspiracy to Hiruzen and is dispatched with Yugao to deliver a summons to the Root Leader. While Kakashi and Yugao are held off by Foundation members, Danzo orders surgery on Kinoe due to his changed perspective. Hiruzen intervenes, convincing Danzo to release Kinoe. Kakashi frees Kinoe, who is subsequently reassigned as an ANBU under Kakashi and accepts the name Tenzo.
