Asuma, Kurenai, and Guy bypass Suna guards to enter the desert during the Chuunin Exams sandstorm. Meanwhile, Kankuro and Temari rescue stranded genin. Gaara leaves a sand clone in his office while encouraging Team Matsuri to continue. Houichi attacks the team with shadow animation to summon Gaara, then attempts to extract Shukaku using a sealing technique. Gaara orders Matsuri, Yukata, and Mikoshi to seek help at the central tower. Yukata collapses, leaving Matsuri to proceed alone. Fuu, sensing tailed beast chakra, rushes to Gaara but is electrocuted by chains, prompting Houichi to test his seal on her. Neji, Lee, and Tenten, holding two heaven scrolls, use the Byakugan to locate a weary Matsuri. Lee misunderstands Neji's intent, but Tenten corrects him. They reach Matsuri, who warns them that Gaara is in danger and asks for assistance in the battle.
