Ep. 78: Asuma's fire jutsu backfires as Hidan reveals his immortality ritual
Aired on October 2, 2008

78
Asuma's fire technique strikes Hidan, but the shinobi is burned alongside his target. Hidan explains that swallowing blood creates an empathic link, meaning any injury he sustains is shared. When Hidan stabs his own leg, Asuma collapses from the pain. Shikamaru deduces that the ritual requires Hidan to remain within a specific circle. He uses his Shadow Possession Jutsu to drag Hidan out of the designated area. With the ritual broken, Asuma recovers enough strength to use his chakra knife and decapitate Hidan. This confrontation occurs during the Akatsuki Suppression Mission arc, specifically serving as the seventh installment of the seventeen-part sequence.
