Ms. Kinue Tabata cancels her wedding reception to Mr. Arakawa because he must pay an old friend's large debt. Wealthy art collector Sataka sees a photo of a ceramic vase owned by difficult collector Hoichi Matsumori, which features one of three carved wooden wise monkeys. Sataka owns the other two and demands the third. Arakawa, Yamaoka, and Kurita approach Matsumori, who agrees to unite the pieces only if he dines with Sataka. Matsumori threatens to burn the statue if he deems Sataka unworthy. Yamaoka trains Sataka in food preparation. During the dinner, Sataka serves simple rice balls with various fillings, surprising Matsumori. Recognizing the reference to the Monkey-Crab Battle, Matsumori willingly gives the monkey figure to Sataka.
