Ash and Goh arrive in Opelucid City, where Goh reunites with Iris and Ash learns she is the Unova Champion. Ash challenges her to a World Coronation Series battle. He initially sends out Dragonite, which becomes exhausted quickly. Ash then uses Dracovish to defeat Iris's Dragonite, but her Haxorus, evolved from Axew, defeats Dracovish. Ash returns Dragonite to the field. Just as defeat seems imminent, Iris cheers for Ash's Dragonite, boosting its confidence. Dragonite learns Draco Meteor and defeats Haxorus. This victory raises Ash's rank to 99, promoting him to the Hyper Class.
