While traveling toward Nimbasa City, Ash and his companions encounter a trainer named Stephan who initiates a Pokémon battle. Stephan chooses Blitzle, prompting Ash to send out Oshawott. During the fight, Oshawott uses his Scalchop shell to block an attack from Blitzle but subsequently loses the shell in the process. Distraught by the loss, Oshawott abandons the match to search for his missing item, causing the battle to end prematurely. This incident highlights Oshawott's attachment to his signature tool and disrupts the planned confrontation between the two trainers.
