Ash and his companions pause near Mistralton City, but Oshawott and Tepig clash over food, provoking a wild Bouffalant. During the escape, Iris, Snivy, Oshawott, Tepig, and Axew become separated from Ash and Cilan. Iris encounters a Nurse Joy wearing a curly wig, who reveals that the Bouffalant spares those with such headgear, mistaking them for herd members. To survive and reunite with their friends, Iris and the separated Pokémon must swallow their pride and don curly wigs to navigate safely back to Ash.
