A collector named Lawrence III seeks to capture the legendary Pokémon Lugia by first capturing the Titans of Fire, Ice, and Lightning, powerful bird-like Pokémon whose conflict could lead to the planet's destruction. Ash, Misty, and Tracey arrive on Shamouti Island after being washed ashore and become involved in the events. There, Ash meets Melody, who gives him a mission to retrieve three Orbs to stop the Titans' war. To accomplish this, he must first seek assistance from Lugia, the Beast of the Sea.
