After hearing about the Malie City Kantonian Gym from Charlie Charma, Ash and his friends travel there. The facility operates differently from standard gyms, requiring challengers to defeat specific trainers on each floor to ascend. Only Ash and Kiawe successfully reach the highest level. There, they encounter the Dragon-type Gym Leader Ryuki, whose rock star battle style swiftly defeats Kiawe's Marowak. Ash sends out Rowlet to compete, but Meltan intervenes to assist its friend, transforming the encounter into a double battle. This unusual structure and Ryuki's distinct fighting method present a significant challenge for the young trainers as they attempt to prove their strength against the unique rules of this specific location.
