Ash and his friends journey to the scenic Malie City on Ula'ula Island. A sudden gust of wind dislodges Mallow's hair accessory, prompting Shaymin to pursue it. Sandy and Meltan follow the Pokémon. Team Rocket, also present in Malie City, observes the trio and decides to chase them with the intent of capturing them. The group's path intersects with the villains' plans as they move through the city. The situation escalates as the chase continues, bringing the characters into direct conflict with the antagonists who are waiting to seize the opportunity to catch the Pokémon.
