During training sessions aimed at teaching Onbat how to fly, Satoshi and his companions discover a tournament known as the Pokémon Sky Relay. Motivated by the desire to see Onbat achieve proper flight, Satoshi chooses to participate in the event using three of his Flying-type Pokémon. However, the competition becomes complicated when Team Rocket decides to enter the race as well, introducing unexpected obstacles and schemes that threaten to disrupt the event and the group's progress.
