Sorata Kanda, a student at the chaotic Sakura Dormitory affiliated with Suimei University of the Arts, is tasked by his teacher Chihiro Sengoku with retrieving her cousin, Mashiro Shiina, who is transferring to the school. After receiving only a childhood photograph of Mashiro, Sorata finds her and brings her to the dorm for dinner with its eccentric residents. The following morning, Chihiro instructs Sorata to look after Mashiro. He discovers that she struggles with basic self-care, such as dressing herself, resulting in a disordered room. Consequently, Sorata spends considerable time helping her prepare, and they rush together to ensure they arrive at school on time.
