Following his departure from Beltrum, Rio reaches the market town of Amande within the neighboring kingdom of Galarc. While observing local food stalls selling pasta and manjuu near the castle gates, he speculates that their creator, Liselotte, shares his past life memories from Japan. Upon exiting the town and venturing into the nearby forest, Rio discovers a young girl lying unconscious on the path. As he approaches to check on her condition and calls out, the girl suddenly opens her eyes and attacks him by thrusting a knife forward in a sudden, violent motion.
