Welkin and Faldio lead Gallian militiamen alongside Zaka’s Darcsen guerrillas in an assault on Imperial positions in Fouzen. Initial successes include overwhelming Imperial forces and rescuing Darcsen prisoners. However, Gregor and the Equus, supported by surviving soldiers and tanks, mobilize to repel the invasion. After the Equus sustains minor damage from explosives on railway tracks, Gregor demands Gallian withdrawal, threatening innocent Darcsens. Faldio orders an attack, prompting the Equus to fire its cannon at the Darcsens. Isara and Ramal, piloting a hijacked Imperial tank, destroy the Equus. Despite the tactical victory, morale plummets due to civilian Darcsen deaths caused by anti-personnel munitions. Rosie suffers trauma, recalling her parents' murder by armed gunmen years ago.
