Ep. 2: Iwamata Kogan tests Irako with a yodare-azuki ritual to decide dojo acceptance
Aired on July 26, 2007

2
In 1622, Irako faces Ushimata, who wounds him despite Irako’s request to join the dojo. Irako considers marrying Mie, Iwamata Kogan’s daughter, before being summoned. Kogan, who tested his sword on six criminals in 1601, recalls a past match against Yagyu Munenori at the Yagyu Estate. Although Kogan saved Munenori from yielding, Munenori later embarrassed him during an interview at the House of Tokugawa. Back in the present, Irako is bound while a yodare azuki rests on his forehead. Iwamata Kogan, appearing demented and incontinent, slices the bean without touching Irako’s skin, thereby accepting him into the dojo.
