The event begins with an unexpected match between one-armed Gennosuke Fujiki and the blind, crippled Seigen Irako. A flashback to 1622 reveals Irako traveling to the Kogan style dojo in Kagegawa to challenge the master. Before facing the master, he must defeat two apprentices, starting with Gennosuke Fujiki, during which Irako damages his opponent's fingers. This earlier conflict sets the stage for the subsequent tournament held seven years later at Sunpu Castle.

Jul 26, 2007In 1622, Irako faces Ushimata, who wounds him despite Irako’s request to join the dojo. Irako considers marrying Mie, Iwamata Kogan’s daughter, before being summoned. Kogan, who tested his sword on six criminals in 1601, recalls a past match against Yagyu Munenori at the Yagyu Estate. Although Kogan saved Munenori from yielding, Munenori later embarrassed him during an interview at the House of Tokugawa. Back in the present, Irako is bound while a yodare azuki rests on his forehead. Iwamata Kogan, appearing demented and incontinent, slices the bean without touching Irako’s skin, thereby accepting him into the dojo.

Aug 2, 2007One year later, Irako has won the affection of Kogan's daughter Mie and mastered Ushimata's technique, positioning himself as a potential successor to Kogan. During moments of clarity, Kogan provides instruction at the dojo. To determine whether Irako or Fujiki is the more suitable heir, Kogan issues a challenge requiring them to bring the heads of the twin sons of master Funaki Ichidensai, recognized as the two finest swordsmen in Nissaka. The pair confronts the twins at night in the woods, initially presenting themselves as Kamaitachi rather than samurai. Both Kogan and Irako win the contest, returning with the severed heads of the Funaki twins, while Irako pauses by the roadside to vomit.

Kogan disciples credit Fujiki for defeating the Funaki twins by striking the older one first, creating an opening for Irako. Kogan names Irako his heir and orders Mie to yield, but Irako requests the ceremony occur after the wedding. On a cold winter night, a Funaki swordsman attacks Fujiki for revenge. Despite numb fingers from the cold, Fujiki defeats him using the Nagare Boshi strike.

Flashbacks reveal his mother prostituted herself while pregnant and gave birth six months late. Irako was born crawling and showed violent tendencies early. Master Kogan suspects Iku’s conduct and cuts off a nipple as punishment. Irako is later summoned to Kontake Shrine on Akiba Mountain, where Master Kogan first awakened to the Nagare Boshi technique. He is promised instruction in the Shooting Star Technique at this significant location. The narrative connects Irako’s difficult origins and current status to his upcoming training under the Kogan master.

At the Kontake Shrine, Irako must fight Ushimata with wooden blades before learning the Nagare Boshi technique. The match is rigged, and Irako takes two heavy blows after withholding his winning move. He then fights Fujiki, who is evenly matched but ultimately defeats him. Irako attacks Fujiki from behind, imagining inheriting the Kogan dojo, marrying Mie, and receiving Fujiki’s respect. Fujiki retaliates, nearly beating Irako to death. While injured, Lady Iku is forced to mutilate Irako with a hot iron but burns her own breast instead. Finally, Sensai Kogan blinds Irako, ending his inheritance hopes and naming Fujiki as his successor.

Fujiki leads Kogan students to confront the ronin, challenging the first swordsman bare-handed to prepare for his Dai-Mokuroku. He defeats this opponent while his allies eliminate the rest, sparing one to spread news. Upon returning to his room, Fujiki discovers Suzunosuke's severed head hanging from the rafters.

Sep 13, 2007Kogan instructors discover Suzunosuke's corpse but lack clues about the killer, who used a powerful upward strike. They choose to frame the skilled swordsman Hikagi Jingorou for the murder. Munakata Shinpachirou volunteers to execute this plan and kills Hikagi. Upon returning, Munakata meets a deformed man with a sword on a bridge and identifies him as the true murderer. Subsequently, Munakata's head appears on the bridge alongside a fake sword as a challenge. Instructor Yamazaki Kurouemon seeks vengeance and kills two ronin at an inn who criticized the Kogan school. Yamazaki also encounters the mysterious swordsman, and his head is subsequently left on the bridge.

Sep 20, 2007In 1627, two and a half years after Irako was punished and banned, Mie's despair over her cruel treatment by her father eats away at her mind. She runs off with her father's sword and he orders her slain, however Fujiki confronts and disarms her even though she uses the Nagare Boshi technique. Fujiki tells Ushimata he believes the killer is Irako even though he is blind, and suspects that he is hiding in Kagegawa. Instructors Mariko Hikobee and Okitsu Sanjyuurou visit Tsudanoichu, a blind masseuse and acupuncturist asking about any new blind strangers. He suggests they speak to a man called Shizuhata Kengyou, the head of the Toudouza, however because of his high station and closeness to Tadagawa, that would be impossible for them. Later, Mariko visits a bathhouse, but as he prepares to sit in the bath he is sliced in half. Later, Okitsu is seen receiving payment from Kengyou's secretaries for information about the three tiger cubs, the three strongest Kogan-ryuu disciples. In the woods, he encounters Fujiki on the way and challenges Fujiki who is vulnerable due to an infected hand. After insulting Mie, Okitsu attempts to use the Nagare Boshi technique, but Fujiki is faster, severing Okitsu's right hand and then killing him.

Sep 27, 2007Mie resumes eating to regain her strength while the Kogan apprentices' murder case is closed by blaming Okitsu. Kogan accuses Ushimata and Fujiki of betraying their style for money before suffering dementia for 49 days. Upon recovery, the clan is summoned to the palace of the blind Kengyou Shizuhata. Kogan inspects a Spanish rapier used by the warrior Sekiun, deeming it suitable only for display. Kengyou orders Fujiki to spar with Sekiun using a wooden sword against the rapier, but Kogan substitutes himself. Initially pierced in the chest, Kogan blocks the thrust and defeats Sekiun. Sekiun attacks Kengyou but is killed by a bodyguard. Irako subsequently taunts Fujiki, threatening future harm.

Ushimata and Fujiki uncover Irako's plot to destroy the Kogan dojo using Kengyou forces.
Oct 4, 2007Ushimata and Fujiki realize Irako uses Kengyou to destroy the Kogan dojo, with the swordplay demonstration intended to kill Fujiki. Upon returning, Kogan explodes in rage before collapsing as three Noubi dojo swordsmen arrive: Ibuki Hanshinken, Neoya Rokurobee, and Kanayoka Unryusai. They state Ushimata asked them to protect the Sensei, but Fujiki challenges them to test their skills. Fujiki then accepts a challenge from Irako, visiting the Shrine on Akiba Mountain while leaving Kogan with the three swordsmen. Meanwhile, Ushimata is ambushed in the forest by Kengyou swordsmen, killing them but suffering a cut from a poisoned metal claw. A flashback reveals Irako discovering his blind sword technique after an attack by three bandits with Iku. Instead of meeting Irako, Fujiki encounters a Kengyou man with a gun, blocking the bullet with his sword base and killing him. With the two strongest Kogan swordsmen away, Irako and Iku appear at the Kogan dojo.

Irako Defeats Kogan and Reveals His Mumyou Sakanagare Style to Tadanaga
Oct 11, 2007Irako and Iku enter Kogan dojo after Noubi swordsmen vouch for them. Iku plays the biwa and recites a poem before revealing a dragon-and-tiger tattoo to provoke Kogan. He brutally cuts her back and kills two Noubi defenders. Trapped, Irako leaps outside to duel Kogan alone. Despite being cut, Irako strikes the old man, who falls silent. Irako rises to confirm the kill, discovering Kogan’s face is destroyed. Fujiki returns to find his master dead and fails to revive him. Seven days later, Ushimata finds the dojo closed in mourning. Eventually, Irako meets Tadanaga, who asks about his technique. Irako identifies his style as Mumyou Sakanagare, concluding the sequence of events with his new identity established.
