Sunako fears for her life as villagers close in to eliminate all shiki. Tatsumi and Seishin attempt a rescue plan, but it fails due to the inhabitants' preparation. Seishin retreats to his former temple, where his mother and friends are brutally murdered while trying to stop the mob. Seishin and Sunako manage to escape, though the villagers pursue them by following a trail of blood. To protect Sunako from sunlight, Seishin places her in a suitcase, conceals it under some brush, and flees, hoping the pursuers will follow him and overlook the hidden suitcase.
