Nagate, Izana, and Yuhata visit an inn where Nagate recognizes Captain Kobayashi as the innkeeper. Yuhata shares intel on Ochiai’s condemned research, leading the trio to a classified facility. They are sedated by security, and Nagate meets Yure, who confirms Ochiai created a Gauna-Human hybrid. This hybrid produces artificial kabi to destroy Gauna, reducing reliance on Kabizahi. Both the hybrid and Kabizahi emit radiation attracting Gauna to Sidonia. Kobayashi names Nagate the test pilot for new weapons. Kunato discovers a forbidden door. Nagate returns to the inn with amnesiac companions. A pacifist colonization ship departs, claiming Gauna avoid unarmed humans. Nagate trains at Toha Heavy Industries using his grandfather’s old simulator. When Gauna 541 intercepts the ship, Nagate volunteers to pilot untested prototypes lacking stabilization. He destroys the Gauna after recovering from recoil. Later, Izana becomes a pilot and fears her short lifespan, running away in distress before Nagate saves her. A massive Gauna pod, 8,000 times Sidonia’s size, approaches.
