Ep. 4: Tsumugi shields Sidonia from a Gauna beam while Nagate destroys the main core.
The Guardians defend against a second Gauna wave as Tsumugi disobeys retreat orders to fight fiercely despite injuries. Izana intervenes to calm her, but her Guardian is too damaged to continue. Tsumugi escorts Izana to safety while Nagate and others attack the main body until it fuses its cores into a single structure. This structure fires a powerful Hyggs beam that destroys several Guardians and threatens Sidonia. Tsumugi uses her body to deflect the beam and protect the ship. Before the Gauna can fire again, Nagate ejects Tsugumori's main propulsor to create an explosion, exposing the main core for the other pilots to destroy. Afterward, Nagate calls for Izana and Tsumugi, and a wounded Izana responds, asking for help while holding Tsumugi's severely damaged body.
