Kyon’s relaxing summer vacation is interrupted when Haruhi summons him and the SOS Brigade to complete her extensive list of summer activities. The group embarks on a whirlwind tour for the next two weeks, engaging in swimming, attending a summer festival, shooting fireworks, hunting bugs, working part-time jobs, stargazing, playing baseball at a batting range, watching a fireworks display, competing in a fishing tournament, traveling through a cemetery, viewing a blockbuster, visiting the beach, bowling, and singing karaoke. After exhausting the entire list, the last day of August arrives. Kyon attempts to complete his neglected summer homework to make up for lost time but eventually succumbs to distraction and goes to bed without finishing it.
