The group discovers Haruhi has looped the last two weeks of August because she refuses to let summer end. They learn the cycle has repeated 15,498 times with minor variations, yet no solution stops it. On the final day, Kyon attempts to stop Haruhi at a restaurant but fails to act. She departs, leaving Kyon resigned to the repetition. As the last day of vacation arrives, he goes to bed without completing his summer homework, accepting the inevitable loop.
