Grateful, the man invites them to eat and reveals he is rushing to Hokkaido for his daughter’s wedding. Later, Kyuu and Megu witness a man on a construction site waving a torch before jumping. Kinta joins them as they discover the victim is the same elderly man. Despite police assumptions of suicide, Kyuu argues against this theory due to the man’s travel plans. He investigates the scene with help from Kinta and Megu, eventually solving the case. Consequently, they are introduced to the Dan’s Detective School and receive enrollment information from Katagiri.

May 6, 2003Kyu, Megu, Kazuma, and Kinta are assigned to Q Class. A perpetrator seeking revenge for failing the entrance exam issues a bomb threat against the school. The group is caught, but a bomb detonates nearby while they threaten Dan with another device set to explode in 10 minutes. Kyu and his friends resolve to protect the school, leading Kyu to deduce the location of a third bomb. The students are then introduced to the building housing their classes, which is the old structure where Dan began his career as a detective.
5EP 5Kazuma Decodes a Dying Message to Solve a Murder Case
May 13, 2003Frustrated by his placement in Q Class, Kazuma convinces Dan to let the entire group assist with an A Class murder investigation involving victim Ootori. The crime scene reveals a fatal head injury caused by a falling pot and a scrambled text message on the victim's computer. Although Kazuma’s custom decoding software fails to decipher the clue, he eventually succeeds by following Kyu’s advice. He identifies the suspect, who attempts to silence him to destroy evidence. Kazuma is saved from this attack by the timely arrival of Kinta, Kyu, and Megu, leading him to accept his current class standing.

May 27, 2003The group visits a friend of Katagiri, who is a splendid artist. It turns out that he too has the same ability as Megu, of photographic memory. Unfortunately, he is killed and the dying message is a 5000 piece solid white puzzle that only Megu can solve thanks to her photographic memory.
8EP 8The Pretty-Boy Detective Appears at Kirisaki Island to Solve Murders
Jun 3, 2003Q and A classes travel to Kirisaki Island with Dan, Katagiri, Maki, and a mysterious handsome boy. Dan reveals the trip’s purpose is to investigate murders from about 50 years ago. The group discovers a torn portrait in the main room, cut with a missing kitchen knife. Maki notes a missing rooftop store room key and obtains a duplicate. Dan explains the murder details, leading the group to the rooftop room. There, they encounter a double-locked-room mystery where Saburōmaru is found murdered, with only the left half of his body remaining.
