Ichigo attempts to discuss her cat gene issues with Ryou, but he ignores her. While transforming into a cat on the way to school, she is rescued and reverted by Alto, who kisses her. She carries the struggling Alto, only to be shocked when he transforms into Ryou. Later, Keiichirou explains the Mew Project's origins at a café. Ryou's father initiated the research after his parents were killed by an ancient chimera anima. To ensure the merging process was safe, Ryou tested it by merging with cat genes, gaining the ability to shift at will. However, this power is limited to 10 minutes per use; exceeding this duration causes permanent feline transformation. Ichigo vows to do her best as a Mew Mew.
