Miyu meets Reiha and her doll Matsukaze while visiting a father and daughter’s home before they depart for the mountains. The pair follows them, surviving a leech attack, and finds shelter with a woman who reveals herself as the shinma En-Jyu. En-Jyu displays her animal companions near a hot spring, but Miyu and Reiha already know she transformed the travelers. Miyu banishes En-Jyu into darkness as retribution, causing the animals to go berserk. To stop the rampage, Reiha freezes all the animals to death. This sequence of events highlights the dangerous consequences of En-Jyu’s actions and the decisive measures taken by the protagonists to restore order in the remote mountain area.
