Oct 6, 1997High school transfer student Miyu Yamano is a vampire who killed Yoko the previous night. Nobuo Machiyama knows her secret and warns teacher Maiko Yanagihara that she is the next target. Yanagihara, caught shoplifting by Satsuki Morishita, denies the danger and summons her pet chameleon, which transforms into the shinma Ga-Ryu. Ga-Ryu attacks Satsuki, but Miyu appears and banishes the demon into darkness. Miyu then puts Yanagihara into an eternal sleep, causing her to tend a garden of flowers. Meanwhile, Machiyama fails to convince Miyu to let him kill shinmas alongside her. He accidentally falls to his death from the school rooftop.

Sep 23, 1998After transferring to Tokiwa High School, Miyu joins Chisato Inoue, Yukari Kashima, and Hisae Aoki for lunch. A rumor circulates about beautiful young women vanishing on a specific train route at night, prompting Miyu’s suspicion. During a shopping trip, Chisato gifts Miyu a matching charm pendant to symbolize their friendship. Despite warnings from Larva and Shiina against growing too close to the girls, Miyu travels the route alone at night. She meets a young man who takes her to his art gallery, revealing it is filled with beautiful young women transformed into mannequins. The man, identified as the shinma Ro-Sha, is banished back into darkness by Miyu, but the victims cannot be saved.

Oct 13, 1997Miyu and her friends visit Yuko Shigeri, whose brother Kouichi Shigeri is becoming paranoid due to a strange mask. Yuko's father remains skeptical of the myths surrounding the item, which is said to have been worn by a witch doctor long ago. Larva reveals he previously encountered the mask, a shinma named Kamen, which had possessed the witch doctor two hundred years ago. Although he killed the host, he failed to destroy the mask. Miyu takes the mask and isolates herself in a room, where Larva confronts Kamen directly. After the mask is severed and burned, the two-hundred-year-old curse appears to end.
4EP 4Miyu and Reiha confront En-Jyu after discovering her curse on travelers in the mountains.
Oct 27, 1997Miyu meets Reiha and her doll Matsukaze while visiting a father and daughter’s home before they depart for the mountains. The pair follows them, surviving a leech attack, and finds shelter with a woman who reveals herself as the shinma En-Jyu. En-Jyu displays her animal companions near a hot spring, but Miyu and Reiha already know she transformed the travelers. Miyu banishes En-Jyu into darkness as retribution, causing the animals to go berserk. To stop the rampage, Reiha freezes all the animals to death. This sequence of events highlights the dangerous consequences of En-Jyu’s actions and the decisive measures taken by the protagonists to restore order in the remote mountain area.
5EP 5Chisato and friends seek Kayoko while Miyu confronts a shinma possessing Oshima in a film reel.
Oct 20, 1997Chisato, Yukari, and Hisae meet Oshima, who produced an unfinished romance movie from decades ago. They plan to find Kayoko, the former leading lady. That night, Oshima discovers his wife threw his movie reel in the trash. Later, Miyu encounters a shinma named Gen-Eh dwelling inside the reel. The next morning, Miyu's friends discover that Kayoko is Oshima's wife. Oshima explains he married her to prove his love, but it only made her bitter. Gen-Eh possesses Oshima and devours him into the film. Miyu follows the shinma inside, cuts off all light sources, and inflames the entity into darkness, destroying the film in the process.

Nov 3, 1997Rumors circulate about a ghost vanishing from a taxi en route to a cemetery. The following night, a driver is bitten by a fanged entity resembling Miyu. Reiha and Matsukaze accuse Miyu of the crimes, but she claims someone is impersonating her. Chisato is attacked by this doppelgänger in a classroom, but the creature flees when Miyu arrives. To expose the impostor, Miyu arranges a nighttime meeting with Chisato at a park. Reiha attacks the entity from a distance, identifying it as a shinma named Ho-Jyo. Miyu then banishes Ho-Jyo into the darkness. Despite this, Reiha and Matsukaze depart with lingering doubts about Miyu’s duties as shinma guardian. With Larva's assistance, Miyu defeats Ja-Ka and sends him back into the darkness. Despite hints that the boy is also a shinma, he remains devoted to his promise of waiting for the girl to return.

Dec 8, 1997Former hitman Ryuji survives a yakuza shooting and receives facial plastic surgery from an unknown doctor at a dilapidated hospital. He reunites with his girlfriend Yoko, who fails to recognize him, allowing him to reintroduce himself as Kenji. They spend time at an amusement park and a hotel, but Ryuji later discovers he killed a yakuza leader and a female student without memory of the events. When he returns to the hospital, Miyu confronts the doctor, revealed to be the shinma Oh-Shu. Although Larva and Reiha struggle against the entity, Miyu defeats Oh-Shu. Ryuji eventually regains his original face, but Yoko, confused by the transformation, stabs him in the chest with a butcher knife.
12EP 12Maki receives a kitten from Chisato but encounters a shinma in an abandoned house garden.

There, he meets a mysterious woman who absorbs the kitten’s spirit into a white rose within a garden of feline spirits. Maki argues that cats should remain free rather than be bound to flowers. This displeases the woman, who transforms into the shinma Ko-Jyoh and attempts to absorb Maki’s spirit. Miyu intervenes by burning the garden and banishing Ko-Jyoh. She then puts Maki into an eternal sleep, causing him to care for an imaginary kitten.
13EP 13Larva pursues the sea's light while Miyu suspects Ryu and Nami defends him from harm.
Dec 22, 1997Miyu suspects Larva when he allows the shinma Ryu to escape. Ryu, in human form, stays with Nami, a shinma who works as a prostitute, and reveals he carries a death crystal that forces him to fight against his will. Sensing the light of the sea, Larva travels to his hometown to find it. Reiha and Matsukaze locate Ryu, prompting Nami to create a barrier to protect them from Miyu. The barrier fails as Nami weakens, revealing she is also infected by the death crystal. Meanwhile, Larva defeats Barrow but is overwhelmed by Lilith and taken aboard a ghost ship to Garline, where he meets Western shinmas who know him.

Jan 5, 1998Ryu, Nami, Miyu, and Reiha attempt to reach the village but are blocked by Barrow. Inside the ghost ship, Lilith subdues Miyu with her ocarina, yet Miyu incinerates her using her paper body. Miyu then confronts Garline, using her voice to awaken a dormant Larva, who defeats Garline with a single chest strike. Before dying, Garline reveals that Miyu bound her blood to Larva, making him her servant and friend. As the ship collapses, Miyu and Larva depart, discovering that Reiha had intentionally frozen Ryu and Nami to death. Miyu attacks Reiha, but Larva intervenes, allowing Reiha to leave. Miyu then sends the frozen pair into the darkness, ensuring they remain together forever.
15EP 15Toshihiro discovers a mermaid in an aquarium tank who devours him after he attempts to rescue her.
Jan 12, 1998Toshihiro enters a special aquarium room and encounters a mermaid submerged in a tank, who also appears to Miyu. He realizes the creature desires to return to the ocean, but the aquarium director opposes this. Ignoring Miyu’s warnings, Toshihiro sneaks into the room and jumps into the tank to save her. Instead of being rescued, the mermaid devours him whole, filling the water with blood. Larva shatters the tank, revealing the mermaid as a shinma named Rin-Koh, whom Miyu banishes into darkness. The director is revealed to have eaten mermaid flesh as a child to gain immortality. She attempted to starve herself to death after witnessing many boys fall victim to the mermaid’s dream. Miyu refuses to put the director into an eternal sleep, noting she already bears the burden of immortality and will eventually die after a century.
16EP 16Yui-Li confronts the shinma Koh-Waku while Miyu intervenes to stop her revenge.
Jan 19, 1998At night, martial artist Yui-Li encounters a shinma disguised as her lover, who escapes her attacks. Upon returning to her dojo, she sees the creature mimicking her master, reminding her that he consumed all her loved ones. As Yui-Li is nearly defeated, Miyu arrives, causing the shinma to vanish. Determined to kill the entity, Yui-Li refuses Miyu's interference. On a harbor ship, she faces the shinma, identified as Koh-Waku, which shifts into forms of her deceased loved ones to exploit her selfish desire for revenge. Before Koh-Waku can consume Yui-Li's soul, Miyu intervenes. With Yui-Li's assistance, Miyu returns Koh-Waku to darkness. Miyu advises Yui-Li to grieve properly rather than fall into eternal sleep.
17EP 17Shinma Mayumi Takahashi reveals her true identity as Ayu to Miyu before being defeated and sent into darkness.
Jan 26, 1998Gas station employee Mayumi Takahashi confesses to novelist Kyouichi Yaguchi that she is a shinma. She acknowledges Miyu’s presence but believes the time for her return to darkness has not yet arrived. Upon returning home, Mayumi is confronted by Yaguchi’s wife, who insists he return to her. During a struggle where the wife attempts to strangle Mayumi, the shinma accidentally kills her. Yaguchi and Mayumi flee together by train, but Miyu tracks them down near the shore. Mayumi reveals her true name as Ayu and agrees to a match against Miyu in front of Yaguchi. Miyu defeats Ayu, sending her into the darkness. Grieving, Yaguchi transforms into a baby, and Miyu places him in a boat, sending him toward a village known as a land of happiness.
18EP 18Tachiki builds an underground city while Miyu investigates disappearing stores and a shinma threat.
Feb 2, 1998Reports surface of stores vanishing into sand, prompting Miyu to investigate despite sensing no shinma nearby. Yasuhiko Tachiki has spent thirty years constructing an underground model city. After encountering a familiar priest, Tachiki goes on a rampage and flees underground, where police officers are attacked by a moving Buddha statue. The statue advances toward the mall, forcing shoppers to evacuate. Reiha defeats the statue with a blizzard attack. Miyu reveals that Tachiki’s wife, the shinma Moh-Chi, caused the disappearances. After Miyu banishes Moh-Chi, she discovers the city was intended as a nest for Moh-Chi’s offspring. Despite the shinma’s removal, Tachiki continues his construction work.
19EP 19Kasumi Kimihara's Doll Exhibition and the Shima Kai-Rai Incident
Feb 9, 1998Doll maker Kasumi Kimihara displays her creations at an exhibition before returning home to her cherished private doll. The next day, gallery owner Yuki Fujimura arrives to serve as a maid, causing Kasumi distress. Later, Kasumi catches Yuki attempting to kiss the doll and stabs it repeatedly in anger. The doll transforms into a shima named Kai-Rai, which Miyu banishes into darkness. During this conflict, the entire mansion is burned down. Subsequently, at another exhibition, rumors suggest that Kasumi and Yuki have formed a romantic relationship.
20EP 20Miyu visits Ruri Sone and confronts the shinma inhabiting her mind.
Feb 16, 1998Miyu is invited to visit Ruri Sone, a student who survived a house fire. She meets Ruri’s father, Hiroshi, a former paleontologist who is obsessed with a butterfly gifted to him. Ruri notes that he visits the greenhouse nightly to see it, unaware the insect has taken the form of a fairy. Miyu discovers that a shinma named Maji-Kan is inhabiting Ruri’s mind and distorting Hiroshi’s perception. Miyu intervenes to break this cycle by sending Maji-Kan into the darkness. Consequently, Hiroshi runs into the flames and dies. To ensure Ruri never feels lonely again, Miyu places her into an eternal sleep.
21EP 21Miyu and Reiha defend the village from three attacking shinmas
Feb 23, 1998After three unknown shinmas attack a village, Miyu is taken hostage and meets Reiha. The village chief, descended from a lineage of shinma protectors, reveals that the attackers will return at noon to claim his daughter Sato as their bride. Miyu and Reiha confront the shinmas, identified as Genzo, Genji, and Genta, at the gate. They combine their powers to defeat the three attackers, sending them into darkness. During the battle, the chief sacrifices himself to protect Miyu. This act causes Sato to commit suicide, which subsequently forces Reiha to freeze all the remaining villagers to death.
22EP 22Miyu's childhood tragedy and awakening of shinma guardian powers
Mar 2, 1998Miyu’s father died when she was under fourteen, leaving her mother distraught. Magician Kitjutsushi invited Miyu to join his magic show after she met his daughter, Reiha. Miyu rehearsed a skit with them, unaware it was a ritual to awaken her shinma guardian abilities, a fact later revealed by her mother. The magician Tonbi, a shinma who transforms from a man named Black Kite, killed Kitjutsushi. Tonbi subsequently murdered Miyu’s mother, prompting Miyu to unleash her fire powers and banish him into darkness. Following these events, Miyu dedicated herself to a journey of casting all stray shinmas into the darkness.
23EP 23Reiha and Matsukaze use snow to trap Miyu and Larva, leading to a deadly confrontation.
Mar 9, 1998An unnamed stray shinma disguised as a salaryman is frozen to death, prompting news reports. Yukari and Hisae speculate about Miyu, but Chisato sees no issue. Reiha and Matsukaze cover the city with snow to lure Miyu into battle and encase Larva in ice. Reiha harbors envy toward Miyu since hearing Kitjutsushi call for her before Tonbi killed him. They previously found an unnamed shinma in the forest, which Reiha froze to death using manifested ice powers. During the fight, Matsukaze shields Reiha from Miyu’s fire attack. Outraged, Reiha attacks with full force, but Larva breaks free and decapitates her. Reiha departs, promising to defeat Miyu next time they meet.
24EP 24Tokiya Inoue Returns and Transforms into the Shinma Hiyoku
Mar 16, 1998Tokiya Inoue, Chisato's older brother, unexpectedly returns from a bird study mission. Chisato introduces him to her friends, leading Miyu to realize he is a stray shinma. Tokiya bears a bird crest on his back, given by a mysterious talking bird he met during his trip. The next day, Hisae overhears Tokiya challenging Miyu to a duel at night and informs Yukari. Yukari and Hisae witness Miyu and Tokiya passing through a demon gate. Inside, Tokiya transforms into a shinma named Hiyoku. Miyu eventually forces Hiyoku back into darkness, but Tokiya dies in the resulting fire. Yukari and Hisae are startled to see Miyu emerging from the demon gate alone.
