Cardinal Rohan, dismissed by Empress Maria Theresa for his misconduct, seeks the Queen's favor but is despised. He enlists Jeanne's help, while Oscar, depressed by Fersen's departure, retreats to a manor with Andre and Rosalie. Jeanne attempts to bribe Oscar with gold, which she coldly refuses. Jeanne deceives Rohan, claiming the plan succeeded and feigning romantic interest to extract 10,000 livres. She keeps the money and later fabricates a meeting with the Queen, demanding an additional 50,000 livres under the pretense of a donation. Despite her wealth, Jeanne feels unhappy and drinks at night. Rohan crashes the Queen's ball, suspecting her feigned illness. Jeanne calms him by hiring a blind prostitute to impersonate the Queen, convincing him of her affection. Oscar arrives shortly after the deception concludes in the garden.
