Ep. 21: Canute survives an assassination attempt while Thorfinn reunites with Leif and seeks revenge on Askeladd.

In 1014, King Selwyn orders Canute to travel to York in Northumbria. During the journey up the Ouse river, an assassin shoots at Canute, but Thorfinn kills the attacker. Thorfinn is recognized by Leif from Iceland, leading to a happy reunion, though Thorfinn remains focused on avenging himself against Askeladd. It is revealed that a female slave disguised as Canute was actually hit, and Canute orders her rescue. Askeladd publicly hints at enemies in York, having hired the assassin to spread rumors. He also spies for the king via Gunnar. Thorfinn, with an unhealed arm, demands a duel from Askeladd, witnessed by Canute and Thorkell. Before the fight, the dying Bjorn challenges Askeladd, who defeats him and kills him mercifully after affirming their friendship. Askeladd then prepares to fight Thorfinn.
