Ep. 20: Canute confronts King Sweyn at Gainsborough while Askeladd secures his safety through political leverage.

At Gainsborough, Canute and his followers confront Floki and the Danish army, demanding passage to see King Sweyn. Inside the castle, Canute dispatches Thorkell to drink with other commanders while he proceeds to the king accompanied by Askeladd and Thorfinn. They detect an ambush in the darkened hall, and King Sweyn confirms his intent to kill Canute. Askeladd intervenes, reminding the king that Canute secured a victory over London through Thorkell's forces. Consequently, the king spares Canute, who decides it is prudent to ally with him temporarily. Later, Rangar's brother Gunnar approaches Canute and swears service, though Askeladd remains distrustful. Finally, Askeladd sends Alti and his brother home, ordering them never to raise a sword again.
